Did You Know...
1 ...that research is showing that our entire body function requires iodine to work properly? No one ever told me that one. My nutritionist has been looking into it and look who's sick all the time lately because she's iodine deficient. Yup, you guessed it. Seems you can also have too much in your system, but believe me I'm not there.
2 ...that toxins in your body can be released through your feet? Turns out our largest pores are in our feet and holistic scientists have developed a way to use a foot soak accompanied with a device producing a type of energy to detoxify your body. Anything from getting rid of a cold to getting rid of years of built up crud from working in a toxic waste plant. (Of which many people cannot be rid of because it is too painful to detoxify their system with drugs, etc. because the organs cannot handle the process.)

3...that analyzing the sound waves put off by our body and producing a complementary sound can do anything from stopping someone from bleeding to death to removing zinc metals from the body (which by the way seems to turn one's hair red as it leaves the body). How interesting!
---That's the latest and greatest from my trip to the nutritionist. Never a dull moment with her!---
(Though one must realize that many of these great discoveries will be poo-pooed because of people who put out bogus versions and call it the same thing...sadness...or people who are scared of "non-traditional" medicine.)
4...speaking of which, ever thought of the fact that homeopathic or holistic medicine/prevention is called "non-traditional" when in fact it is based upon traditions much older than those used by "traditional" medicine? Now that's one to ponder.
5...they have found what they believe to be the lost tellings of Judas. As archeologically and historically interesting as that is, my mother had a valid point. What amazing things will it really tell us besides about the society at the time? It can't so much clear up any questions because there is no way to know whether Judas is telling the truth or making himself look the way he wants himself to look. And, if it shows that Jesus planned Judas to commit his sins as a great scheme, does it really make any difference? What needed to be done was ultimately going to be done, either way.
6...there are such things as "Cargo Cults" in the South Pacific that pray to Gods that look like American Navy sailors believing they will one day come back with cargo planes full of goods for them? All because of the American's usage of South Pacific islands during WWII and our impact upon the natives who had never seen such people or things before. (Thank you Smithsonian magazine.)
7...I love to learn new things?! Well if you didn't know that one you must have an idea by now. I could continue the list of interesting things I've learned simply because I've been laid up with a sinus cold for a few days and had some time to do some reading. Amazing what a little down time will do for a person!
Well, I really must get back to work cleaning. Seriously, with this family there is no end to the stuff I can find to throw away, give away, or sell. One could almost make a living just doing that if they'd let me. ;) Hope you enjoyed my random tidbits. Of course, you may not all believe or agree, but that's the joys of friends!

Hmmm... I'm sure that I can come up with a tidbit that you wouldn't know of offhand...
Ok, Coca Cola has the only plant in the country to remove Cocaine from coca leaves, in order to use the remaining parts of the leaves to flavor the softdrink.
If you microwave a new twenty dollar bill, the left eye of Jackson will explode. This, however supposedly works with only certain types of microwaves. I have never attempted to do this, as I like to keep my twenties intact.
There is a form of juggling called "Contact Juggling". You might have seen an example of this in the movie Labyrinth, starring David Bowie. Look for it during the scene where he is talking to the female protagonist in the beginning of the movie. He holds a "crystal ball" that seems to dance and float about his fingers. This performance, however, was not done by Bowie, but by the man who is said to have invented the form, Michael Moschen.
A couple of comments on the tidbits posted.
1. That is the reason that they add Iodine to salt. Most people eat salt, so they figure that adding that will reduce iodine deficiency.
2. Couldn't you do the same thing in a sauna? And please don't say "holistic scientists"... They aren't scienists.
3. What sound waves does my body produce, and how do I measure them? Are you talking about the sound of my voice, or other, wierd alien sounds? And after that, how would complimentary sounds be produced? I'm not scared of non-traditional "medicine", it's just after researching a little psychology, you find out about something called the "placebo effect". That is something that real scientists have found out that if you really believe that the sugar pill or the tea leaves or the foot soaks will work, then they probably will. It's on the same line as another very real phenomena called "psychosomatic illness". This means that if you believe that you're sick, you can actually make yourself sick, or at least suffer from the symptoms of illness.
4. It's called "non-traditional" because our current society uses actual medicine as a tradition. Like we will go to a doctor, traditionally, instead of a witch doctor.
5. Anytime they "find" a "new gospel" I laugh. Did you know that there are at least a dozen other gospels that weren't included in the New Testament? In around the 4th or 5th century BC, the Catholic Church voted on the gospels that would best, in their opinions, represent the life of Jesus. So there were books that weren't included in the bible. The fact that they are "finding" a gospel supposedly written by Judas Iscariot is more indicative of them just planting it in some archeological site or something. I don't know why they would do that though, so that's probably not true, but that's what I would like to believe. Besides, unless I'm mistaken, we don't have an example of his handwriting, so I could write something, and say it's Judas. It's probably just a hoax.
(oh, another interesting tidbit. Did you know there was another man who was walking about around the time of Jesus? I forget his name, but he basically said the same kind of stuff as Jesus did, and he had desciples, and he was crucified. Supposedly he was resurrected as well. He just never caught on. I'll have to find the name of that guy.)
6. I find cargo cults to be fascinating. I first read about them a couple of years ago, and they are absolutely hilarious. Just goes to show, people will believe anything. By the way, I think most of them are in Micronesia.
7. Yes I like to learn new things. Unfortunatly, my job precludes that I learn absolutely nothing for the time being. I have about 3 hours a day to myself. Sigh....
Anyway, this took way longer than I thought it would, but whenever I see someone talk about homeopathic remedies, I have to speak up.
Well Mike, as always you and I rarely see eye to eye on things, but that's what makes it a unique friendship. ;)
Just real quick, though, as for the iodonized salt, the processing it goes through kills most of the components in the iodine that do any good to the body, much like what most processed foods do.
As for "holistic scientists," I'm afraid I'll have to continue the term. They are legitimate scientists, they simply specialize in prevention rather than what the Western world focuses on - treating the already problem. I simply choose the former - less long-term side effects.
Now calling our typical medicine traditional is still an odd paradox to me because homeopathic or Eastern-based remedies have been a much longer tradition than Western remedies. And no, I by no means mean "witch doctor". If you care to know the detailed research behind any of what I blogged I'll be happy to refer you to my nutritionist. (Yes, she's a scientist, Masters in Biological Sciences, specializes in Anatomy & Physiology.)
But thanks for reading the blog - means you're still out there somewhere, which I am always happy to hear! :) Oh yeah, and I loved your interesting tidbits - I'll have to try that 20 dollar bill thing sometime!
